As announced before, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will be based on 10nm nodes. This is a marked improvement over the 14nm based Snapdragon 820 cores. The use of a smaller node means that this CPU will have a highly improved power efficiency. The leaked slides of the upcoming chipset reveal that it consumes about 40% less power than the previous generation model. In fact, the chipmaker goes to the extent of stating that its upcoming chip will consume half the power of a Snapdragon 801. With that said, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is said to boast of a 27% performance improvement.

The slides which got leaked on the web recently reveals that Qualcomm will be making use of Kryo 280 cores for their chip. This apparently will give the SoC a 20% performance boost over other chips for a wide range of use cases ranging from app loading time, web browsing to VR. The big.LITTLE implementation based cores will be divided into two clusters namely Performance and Efficiency, wherein each cluster will be composed of four sets of Kryo 280. The Performance cluster will be pack four cores clocked up to 2.45GHz and 2MB of L2 Cache. On the other hand, the cores of the Efficiency cluster will be clocked at 1.9GHz. Besides, it will have 1MB of L2 Cache. With that said, the leaked Qualcomm slide reveals that the efficiency core will be used on 80% of the occasions.

Coming to connectivity, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will feature a Snapdragon X16 LTE modem. The chipmaker had unveiled this new modem at an event in Hong Kong back in October 2016. Apart from that, it will pack an Adreno 540 GPU and comes with support for OpenGL ES, Vulkan and Direct C 12 and HEVC video. The slides further reveal that the new chip will support 10-bit 4K 60 frames per second playback. It is worth noting that new graphics core inside the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 is said to offer up to 25% faster rendering. The flagship chip that is expected to make its way to a range of smartphones in 2017 will also feature Quick Charge 4.0, Hexagon 690 DSP and Qualcomm Spectra Camera.

With that said, more details regarding the chip is expected to emerge as the launch date comes closer. Expect, big shot smartphone OEMs to showcase a number of devices running on the Snapdragon 835 during MWC 2017 in Barcelona next month.
