Other than running the Tizen OS, the Samsung Z will feature a 4.8-inch 720p (HD), Super AMOLED display with a quad-core, 2.3GHz CPU (from Intel we presume) with 2GB RAM, 16GB memory, LTE, an 8-megapixel camera, a heartrate sensor and fingerprint scanner. It comes with 2600 mAh of battery, and features a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. It’ll fully support 2D and 3D graphics The Samsung Z looks quite different from the Galaxy series of Android smartphones, with a much sharpened edges and blocky design. The Samsung Z will be available in black and gold and features a slim, angular design that sets the device apart from Samsung’s Galaxy S line of phones.

Samsung claims that Tizen comes with several advantages like much faster boot up, immediate multitasking capabilities, and faster Web browsing. It features a “distinctive home and application layout for easy access to favorite features and apps.” The operating system also includes a “dynamic box” and color themes settings to let users tailor the device to their tastes. The Samsung Z is expected to be unveiled at the Tizen developer conference scheduled to be held in San Francisco this week. Samsung has been working on Tizen along with Intel, with an eye to reduce the dependence on Google. Earlier this year, there were some reports about a Tizen smartphone called Samsung-ZEQ9000, which never made it to the market. Although Samsung has been working on Tizen smartphones for years now, it has had problems getting support from carriers, app developers and others needed for a successful launch. For now, Samsung will be launching the Tizen smartphone in Russia, as the market isn’t as carrier dependent as US or Japan. Carriers like NTT Docomo had shelved plans to bring Tizen smartphone to markets like Japan owing to lack of consumer demand for a new mobile operating system. There is no confirmed price for the Samsung Z yet.
