The successor to the Sony Xperia Z2 looks similar to its predecessor, but carries a metallic frame on the sides and glass back & front. The addition of metal gives Xperia Z3 a much premium look and feel. Otherwise, there’s not much difference between the Z2 and the Z3. The Xperia Z3 sports the same 5.2-inch full HD display, built using Sony’s own Triluminous display technology. Under the hood, the device is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz, along with an Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Internal storage remains at 16GB, and users can extend this up to an additional 128GB using a microSD card. The Xperia Z3 Compact is a true ‘mini’ flagship phone. It also boasts of similar hardware specifications, with some minor changes offered in the form of a smaller size and a slightly lower price tag. The Xperia Z3 Compact features a 4.7-inch Triluminous HD display. As for the internals, Sony has used the same 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor as the one featured on the Xperia Z3, complemented with 2GB of RAM. The phone carries the same 20.7MP shooter as its bigger brother. They also sport a 2.2-megapixel shooter in the front for selfies. Both the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are IP68 and IP65 certified devices, that offer highest levels of water and dust resistance currently available. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and DLNA. The Xperia Z3 packs in a beefy 3,100mAh battery, while the Z3 Compact gets a smaller 2,600mAh unit. Although both are giants when it comes to looks and hardware, the pricing looks a bit too steep to start with. The Xperia Z3 is priced at Rs.51,990, almost Rs.2000 more that what Xperia Z2 was priced at. Mind you, the Xperia Z2 came with an attractive bundle offer where Sony was giving away the SmartBand and leather case for free with the phone. No such offers here. We shall be taking a deeper look at both these phones to see if they worth the price.
