The new Xperia Z4 features a 5.2-inch Full HD (1080p) display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa core processor along with 3GB of RAM. There’s a 32GB onboard storage, with a microSD slot which can extend storage by up to 128GB. The rear camera stays at the same 20.7MP as on Xperia Z3, while the front camera is a wide-angle 5.1MP snapper for videos chat and selfies. The Xperia Z4 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sony’s own Xperia skin on top of it. There’s a 2930mAh battery juicing up all of these.
From the outset, nothing much has changed from the Xperia Z3. The display is similar (no Quad HD like Samsung Galaxy S6), the camera is similar, the design is similar. The RAM on board is similar. Only the processor has got a slight bump. It continues the metallic frame with glass front and back design that we have come to expect from Xperia flagship phones. Of course, the ultra-useful water & dust resistance features are present as well. The handset is IP6 certified for dust and IP5 and IP8 certified for water. The phone can be submerged to 4.92 feet for as long as 30 minutes without issues. The Sony Xperia Z4 will be available in White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green. The phone is slightly thinner at 6.9mm and weighs 144g. That’s quite commendable considering the phone has a huge 2930mAh battery and metallic frame. But it’s easy to see why Sony is struggling to sell its smartphones. There is hardly any innovation in their yearly upgrade of flagship phones, be it in terms of design or hardware/software features. No wonder they chose to make the announcement through a press release instead of a gala launch event like most of its competitors do these days. There’s no mention of pricing or availability as yet, but the device is expected to go on sale in Japan to start with.
